June 2019 exam analysis
The UGC NET of June 2020 for HRM (Code 55) was conducted on 05 Nov 2020. The difficulty level of the paper was moderate. There were many surprises, which might bring down the cut off by 2-3 percentage points. Keep reading…..
Before anything else, let us look at the Cut off in last 3 exams. The cut off in Dec 2019, June 2019 and Dec 2018 were, as given below:
Cut off in Dec 2019
Unreserved: 67% (JRF) and 58% (NET), OBC: 62% (JRF) and 52% (NET), SC: 60% (JRF) and 51% (NET), ST: 62% (JRF) and 52% (NET)
Cut off in Jun 2019
Unreserved: 70% (JRF) and 61% (NET), OBC: 65% (JRF) and 54% (NET), SC: 64% (JRF) and 53% (NET), ST: 65% (JRF) and 53% (NET)
Cut off in Dec 2018
Unreserved: 68% (JRF) and 59% (NET), OBC: 64% (JRF) and 53% (NET), SC: 61% (JRF) and 51% (NET), ST: 64% (JRF) and 50% (NET)
This time, the cut off is likely to go down by 2-3 percentage points. remain same. For JRF you can expect cut off to be around 65-66% and for NET you need around 56-57%.
There are 6 important features of June 2020 exam (held in Nov 2020) for HRM paper:
1. Although Human Peritus has shared new labour codes also with our students, but there was not even a single question on 4 labour codes. In fact, the Code on Wages came in mid 2019 and after there there have been 2 exams (Dec 19 and June 20). There were no questions on new codes. So our advise it, stick to older labour laws only, unless, there is explicit change in the syllabus.
2. There are 2 questions on strategy management, 1 question on TQM and 1 question on International IR. Note that TQM, Strategy Mgt and IR in USA/UK has been explicitly removed from the syllabus, when the syllabus got changed in Jan 2019. So these 4 questions are totally out of syllabus. These keywords were there in older syllabus.
3. The NTA has started giving questions, which are framed by creating, more than one option correct. Such questions increase difficulty level of question paper. Earlier such questions were asked in UPSC exams, but hardly in UGC exams. There were 24 questions of this type. This is a big change.
4. There are few questions, which no student can remember, like remembering exact date of 2001 amendment (usually remembering just year is OK), remembering all conventions of ILO (usually core conventions are OK to remember), companies act 2013.
5. This time (and this is first time, we are seeing this), there are relatively lesser number of questions on Labour Acts (20 only). Big surprise. Usually they are above 30-35.
6. There were 10 RC based questions, which were on “application of concepts”. Vey easy.
After every NET exam, we at Human Peritus, analyse, how many questions appeared from Study Material Package of Human Peritus. This time 89 out of 100 Questions are covered in Package of Human Peritus. Yes, if someone would have studied only from Human Peritus Package (and nothing else, no other book, no previous paper), She/he would have easily scored above 89% in June 2020 exam of HRM subject. This “question by question analysis” for 05 Nov exam is available at the bottom of this page. This number was 92% in Dec 2019, 88% in June 2019, 82% in Dec 2018, 91% in July 2018 and 80% in Nov 2017. You can see previous years analysis here Dec 2019 and June 2019 and Dec 2018 and July 2018 and Nov 2017
Overall Summary- Our Advice for 2021 students
On social media, we hear so many gurus saying with confidence that “1 question comes from XXX topic”. Please note that, there are no such trends. If you want to have 100% confidence of cracking UGC NET, you have to stick to these 2 rules.
Rule 1 : Go through every keyword of syllabus.
Rule 2: Treat every keyword of syllabus with equal respect. Nothing is less important.
We update our Study Material package every 6 months. Next updated package for 2021 exam, will be available from 20 Nov 2020, which you can order by following the steps listed on the home page of website (Click on the Green boxes, as per your subject).
Since, there is high focus on conceptual clarity, we advise you to start “understanding concepts”, rather than “learning keywords”. Therefore, you should consider Live Classes at Human Peritus
