Books & Preparation Tips for Assistant Professor Commerce (College Cadre) HPSC

Haryana Public Service Commission has published vacancies for Assistant Professors (College Cadre) in Higher Education Department, Haryana. There are 62 posts of Commerce subject.

In this post, let us discuss the preparation strategy for cracking this prestigious job with the Haryana Government, for which starting salary will be approximately One lakh per month.

It is very essential that you get a good score in written exam only, so that any unfavourable performance in interview does not hamper your chances of overall selection.

Please note that competition is going to be very tough, because large number of students are eligible for Commerce subject. You can take a guess about number of potential candidates from this data point. In UGC NET approx. 1,00,000 students appear for Commerce out of total of 9,00,000 students (highest among 80 subjects).

So, how to get a great score in written exam only. Based on our experience, at Human Peritus, allow us to share few “must to do” tips:

No. 1 – Syllabus is almost similar to syllabus of UGC NET: We, at Human Peritus, have analysed entire syllabus, word by word. We found that, it is almost same as UGC NET (it is subset of UGC NET). Thus, it becomes very very important for us to solve all previous year papers of UGC NET.

No. 2 – So, how to study with previous papers? Here is something important. While attempting each question, do not just “solve” the question. Rather try to understand the “entire concept”. Questions will not repeat in June 2019, but Concepts will repeat. For example, consider following question:

Which of following is not one of 4 Ps of Marketing?

(A) Product

(B) Price

(C) Place

(D) Process

Now, do not just look for the Answer (Option D)? Also Google and find out, what exactly is 4 Ps of Marketing? Which management Guru gave this concept? What each P stand for? What are 7 Ps for Services? etc. You should be equipped handle any question on 4 Ps of Marketing, just because you did one question.

Please mind it that, it will take time. May be 10-15 minutes with each question…But if you attempt around 2000 Commerce questions (all papers from 2009 to 2018), with this approach, No one can stop you from getting very good score in June 2019 exam.

No. 3 – So, which books to study? First thing, DO NOT buy any book, available on online portals. Why?? Because of two reasons…One….No one can cover entire syllabus with a book within 300-400 pages….Two…. the study material requires continuous improvements, as per changing exam trends…..

Still not convinced…Do one small experiment… Buy one such book…Download any last year paper from CBSE/UGC website. Try to find, how many exam questions are explained in your book.

Our suggestion is….Do not go after Books…Go after the Syllabus… Take a print out of syllabus and study topic by topic. One topic might be good in one books, Second topic in another book, Third topic on Google….. Fourth topic on RBI website…Fifth Topic on Ministry of Commerce website (Foreign trade policy)…and so on…Focus on topics and not on specific books.

No. 4 – How to study topic wise? There are two types of new topics.

Type 1– Topics for which you know clearly, what has to be studied and you can figure out, what can be expected questions. For example, Motivation Theories, Capital Budgeting, Types of Banks. These topics have defined boundaries and you know it.

Type 2– Topics for which you can keep studying for 1000 years and still you are not sure, if you have covered everything. For example, Banking Reforms, Industrial Relations in India. No one has idea on what is boundary here.

Identify and choose Type 1 topics from new syllabus, so that you get high ROI for your efforts.

No. 5 – What to do on exam day? Please note that, many students prepare well, but still they fail, because they do not do things smartly on the exam day.

Use strategy of elimination of Non-Easy questions… Do not attempt any question without elimination of choices. If you are able to eliminate even one choice, your chances of getting that question right are 33%. Similarly, if you can eliminate two choices, your chances are 50%. So, attempt smartly with elimination method.
