We will discuss 6 challenges to cracking NPCIL HR Dy. Manager Exam.

The online exam will have 120 questions, to be answered in 120 minutes with one-fourth negative marking. The syllabus for the exam can be broadly divided into 7 buckets:

1. Human Resource Management, HR

2. Labour Laws (15 Acts to be covered), LL

3. Industrial Relations, IR

4. Organizational Behaviour, OB

5. Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and English

6. Ethics and RTI Act

7. General Awareness

It is very important to score high in written exam only. One reason is that the competition will be high for this coveted job. Second reason is that the interviews are usually unpredictable. You have to secure your seat with a high score in the written exam, so that even if you mess up in Interview, you are still IN. 

But, how do we get a Great Score in the written exam?

Based on our experience at Human Peritus, the following 6 challenges will be deciding factors:

Challenge Number 1, NPCIL HR exam requires speed of 1 minute per question. This means, you will need amazing “time management” skills.

You can’t afford to spend disproportionately large time on one question, even if you are sure to get it right. You have to learn art of to skipping tougher questions and moving to the next question. It might look trivial, but we have been seeing many students, over the years, who could not attempt all questions (and thus missed easy ones), because they spent more time on tougher questions.

And this “Art of Skipping and Moving to next question” does not come naturally. You have to practice it. The focus should be, not to miss even a single EASY question.

Challenge Number 2 is the topic of Labour Laws. There are 15 labour laws to be covered for NPCIL Deputy Manager HR exam. How do we remember, each line of labour acts, considering the language in which they are written? But this is the deal breaker section. You can not ignore it.

Challenge Number 3 is the time taken by questions of Quantitative/Reasoning/DI. Please keep in mind that you will be competing with the people, each of whom has prepared for CAT and other MBA entrances in their lives. So everyone will be able to attempt questions in these sections. Only challenge is, whether, they will be able to do at speed of 1 minute per question. Not All of Them.. So what to do?

To ensure that you maximize your score by getting full marks in Quantitative/Reasoning/DI questions, you have to plan 1.5-2.0 minutes per question. This can be done, only when you can save time elsewhere. Thus key is “Practice” and develop speed of “20-30 seconds per question” for HR/OB/LL/IR/English sections. Practice Online Tests.

Challenge Number 4 is one-fourth negative marking. What to do with tougher questions?

You have to use strategy of elimination for difficult questions. Attempt the question, ONLY if you are able to eliminate at least 2 options, so that, there are at least 50% chances of getting it right.

Challenge Number 5 is the coverage of syllabus.  We have feedback from students of previous years, that, the questions are asked from topics, which are not covered in traditional MBA Books.

For example, consider the topic of Change Management. In MBA, for Change Management, we study only Kurt Lewin theory. But, in exam, we see questions from other theories of Change management,  like, like John Kotter, Ulrich, Neo Trichy.

So, From where do we study these topics?

For any given topic, we need to consider books of multiple authors, IGNOU notes, Books of Indian authors, Ministry of Labour websites, PIB etc.

Challenge Number 6 is Current Affairs. We advise you not to put special effort for this part, as anything can be asked. Just stick to Newspapers, as much as you can. Otherwise it’s OK. This section will not decide if you are IN/OUT.
