Analysis of Commerce Subject Code 08 of UGC NET held on 06 Dec 2019
The UGC NET for Commerce (Code 08) was conducted on 06 Dec 2019, post lunch. The difficulty level of the paper was average.
Before anything else, let us look at the Cut off in last 2 exams. The cut off for Commerce in June 2019 and Dec 2018 were, as below:
Cut off in Jun 2019
Unreserved: 68% (JRF) and 60% (NET)
OBC: 63% (JRF) and 53% (NET)
SC: 60% (JRF) and 50% (NET)
ST: 57% (JRF) and 48% (NET)
Cut off in Dec 2018
Unreserved: 62% (JRF) and 54% (NET)
OBC: 58% (JRF) and 49% (NET)
SC: 54% (JRF) and 47% (NET)
ST: 54% (JRF) and 46% (NET)
This time, the cut off is likely to remain same. For JRF you can expect cut off to be around 68% and for NET you need around 60%.

Overall Summary- Our sincere suggestion for future aspirants
On social media, we hear so many gurus saying with confidence that “1 question comes from XXX topic”. Please note that, there are no such trends. If you want to have 100% confidence of cracking UGC NET, you have to stick to these 2 rules.
Rule 1 : Go through every keyword of syllabus.
Rule 2: Treat every keyword of syllabus with equal respect. Nothing is less important.
Highlights of Commerce Paper held on 06 Dec 2019 are:
1. In every exam you will find 5-6 questions, which hardly anyone can answer, For example UGC NET expects you to remember years in which all T-bills were introduced and abolished. These questions should not scare you.
4. Ten Questions on Reading Comprehension, which did not require any Commerce subject knowledge.
5. Statistics – Applications of chi square, ANNOVA etc, properties of mean, mode, median, harmonic and geometric mean, and 2 questions on skewness – overall level was easy, no tricky questions.
6. One repeat question from June 19 paper – Theories of Profit and their Propounders
7. FM – Numerical on cost of capital and 2 questions on rate of return methods.- easy ones
8. Banking and FI – questions on committees, RBI history, Moderate level questions.
9. HR and OB – Questions were very easy like steps of selection process, biases in performance appraisal, mostly expected questions.
10. In all, the level of exam was from easy to moderate.
